Mushrooms

Got Moisture?

Like a flower bursting forth after a summer rain...   Mushrooms are like a flower blossoming above the ground when the conditions are just right.   A few years ago we cut down a tree in our front yard, leaving only a stump of about 30 inches or so.   I decided to put a large pot on top of the stump where I could plant some annuals - dragon wing begonias and sweet potato plants - where the deer would have a hard time reaching them!

Early in June, we had a lot of rain, and because of the dead tree, whenever there is an excess of water, we awake to find a variety of mushrooms growing all around the stump.   Once the ground dries though, the mushrooms also dry up and disappear.   Sometimes they are mundane but occassionally they can be quite interesting!
